Today, if we have the time and money, we can step on a plane and in comfort and safety reach nearly any point on the globe. It is so routine that we take it for granted---we shouldn't. It hasn't been too long ago that global air travel was for the few brave pioneers, and some of these paid with their lives to help make our modern air travel what it is. Atchinson native Amelia Earhart was one such pioneer. The house in which she was born has been restored and turned into a museum by the 99's, a group of women pilots of whom Earhart was the first president. They have done an excellent job of restoring this home to the way it looked in Earhart's time. Also included are artifacts that belonged to her or her family. Photo of the interior is of the room in which she was born on July 24, 1897.
