The
waters of the Elk River pause briefly here on their relentless
journey to the sea. In the process, they provide a beautiful and peaceful
spectacle of nature as they form a 10 foot water fall known as Elk Falls.
The small community here also shares that name.
Complementing
the falls is the graceful 1893 Pratt Truss Iron Bridge, which is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The old bridge
is no longer used for vehicle traffic, and would have been removed if not for
the efforts of local citizens who rallied in support of the old bridge.
Today,
safe from the scrap yard, and open to foot traffic, the bridge
provides an excellent vantage point from which to view the peaceful river and
water fall.
